Inserting a table into your page is done by either
Clicking on Table in the Main Menu and choosing Insert then
Table or clicking on the Table button shown in the screenshot on
the left. This will open a new window as shown in the screenshots
on the right.
The "Quickly" tab lets you drag your mouse to
determine the rows and columns of your table. Dragging to the
right will determine the columns and dragging down will
determine the rows. If you do choose to use the Quickly tab I
would recommend that you first go to the Cell tab and format the
cells first as once you have marked the rows and columns on the
quickly tab the table is created and you will have to edit the
table to change it's appearance.
The more logical way to create your table would be using the
"Precisely" tab along with the "Cell" tab.
(Click on top graphic at the right to see the Precisely tab
screenshot.
First determine how many
rows and columns your table is going to use and enter these on the
Precisely tab beside Rows and Columns. Determine how wide you would
like your table, you can choose either in pixels or in percentage of
the page. I prefer to use percentage of the page in most instances
because then the table will enlarge and shrink to the viewers screen
resolution rather than stay the same size and leave gapping blank
space. Finally choose the width of the Border around your table, if
you do not want a border choose 0.
Cell properties are
determined in the Cell tab. Under Horiz alignment you can choose
whether to align your cells to the left, the right or to center them.
Under Vert alignment you can choose to align them at the top, middle
or bottom. The vertical and horizontal alignment determines where the
content of the cells are going to be placed. Under Text wrapping you
can choose either Wrap or Don't wrap. What this means is the if you
have chosen Text wrapping your text within the cell will continue to
the next line when it has reached the size specified for the cell.
Choosing Don't wrap will cause the text to continue on the same line
until you hit the enter key to create the next line. Cellspacing
determines the width between each cell in the table, Cellpadding
determines the space between the cell wall and the content of the
cell.
Editing Once you
have set up the properties for the table click OK and your table will
be inserted into your page. To edit the table you can right click
anywhere in the table and choose Table Cell Properties. This will open
a window as shown in the Table Properties screenshot on the right. By
clicking on the screenshot you will see the Cell Properties Window.
