Nvu provides two icons for lists, they are the Ordered (numbered)
button
& the Unordered (bulleted) button
.
If you want to create a ordered or unordered list simply click on the style of list you want to create and enter your first
line for the list and hit enter. When you are finished your list you can
click on the same button to finish the list or you can hit enter twice
after the last entry, which will end the list. Below you will see samples
of an ordered and an unordered list.
Ordered List
- Wake up
- Make Coffee
- Check Email
- Check forums
- Get cup of coffee
- Day begins

Unordered List
- Wake up
- Make Coffee
- Check Email
- Get cup of coffee

If you right click beside the text toolbar you can add two more buttons to
the list section, these will be Term
and Definition
which are used to create a
Definition List.
If you have added the above two buttons to your toolbar
to begin the
Definition List just click on the
button
and type your first entry hit the enter key and it will automatically go
to the
button or description section of the list. To end the definition list just
hit the enter key twice. A Sample definition list is shown below.
Definition List
- Pizza
- A food that by Maggy's terms is very healthy as
it has your fruits and veggies with the pizza sauce, it has your bread
products with the dough and your meat products as long as you put
pepperoni and ham and all that kinda stuff.
- Coffee
- An essential dietary produce according to Maggy,
life is not complete without coffee.
You
can also access the List tools by going to the Format section of your Main
Menu and then placing your mouse over List you will get the menu as shown
in the screenshot to the right here. The List Properties choice allows you
to define the properties of the list, for example in a bulleted list it
will allow you to format the type of bullet you will be using (square,
circle, etc.). Two types of lists that I know of that are not included in
the List section in Nvu are the Menu List and the Directory List. The two
in my opinion are identical but if you wanted to insert one of them you
could do this by going to the Main Menu and Choosing Insert and then HTML
and entering the HTML for either list.
Line
Breaks
To use this you would click on Insert on the main menu and then
at the very bottom you will see Break Below Image(s). This break insures
that no matter what resolution the visitor to your page is using, the line
will break as you want it to.
Horizontal Line
A horizontal line is created by clicking on the Insert button on
the Main Menu and choosing Horizontal Line. To adjust the properties of
your horizontal line all you need to do is right click on the line and
choose Horizontal Line Properties. As you can see in the screenshot on the
right you can adjust the width, height, alignment, and choose 3-D shading of
the line.
The following line has a width of 100 pixels and a height of 10.
The following line has a width of 100 pixels, height of 5 and red in
color.
There are three buttons on the Text Formatting menu that have not been
dealt with in the last two lessons. These three are used in Layers and
will be discussed in a lesson in the future.
