Cleaning Cookies and Cache Windows XP

Click for Routine Maintenance Printout

This tutorial I did for Windows XP, Windows98 has another tutorial, honestly any other version of Windows, I don't know about them anymore, but if need be can call my computer guy to give me the answer.

  1. Close down your browser
  2. Click on My computer on your desktop
  3. Click on (C:) Drive
  4. Click on Documents & Settings then username (mine is Maggy and this step may only be for pro version) then Local Settings
  5. You may need to then click on Show all files
  6. Click on Temporary Internet Files
  7. Go to Menu bar and choose Edit then Select All
  8. Go back to Menu bar and choose File then Delete
  9. In your address bar it should say C:\Documents and Settings\Maggy\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files (replace the "Maggy" with your own settings) you want to add to that \Content.IE5 and hit go
  10. Delete all files and folders you see in there. You might get an error message that you can't delete something, it is because you have a browser window open, close it down.
  11. Go back to Menu bar and choose Go then Up One Level
  12. Delete all but the Content.IE5 folder if it is visible to you
  13. Go back to menu bar and choose Go then Up One Level
  14. Click on History folder
  15. Go to Menu bar and choose Edit then Select All
  16. Go back to Menu bar and choose File then Delete
  17. Go back to Menu bar and choose Go then Up One Level
  18. Click on the Temp folder
  19. Go to Menu bar and choose Edit then Select All
  20. Go back to Menu bar and choose File then Delete
  21. Go back to Menu bar and choose Go then Up One Level
  22. Click on the Downloaded Program Files

You can do two things with the three circled files, either delete the them entirely or right click on them individually and choose update. I highly recommend deleting them and reinstalling. If you are having chat problems, definitely delete.

Reboot your computer.
