Lesson 5-1

Creating Tables (The tools)

Draw Table This will bring up the toolbar shown on the right here. You can use it to draw a table specific to your choice or you can also choose from an assortment of predefined tables for your page. You can also pin the Tables Toolbar to the top or the bottom of the window by dragging it to the area you would like to pin it. It will then look like the Toolbar discussed here.

Insert will open a new submenu allowing you to insert a table, by clicking Table will bring up a new window allowing you to set the size, layout and set it as the default for new tables if you wish. Rows or Columns allows you to add more rows or columns to your existing table. Cell will add a new cell to the specified area you have chosen. Caption will insert a caption into your table area.

Delete Cells is used to delete cells that you no longer wish to be in the table.

Select will open another new submenu. If you choose Table it will highlight your entire table. Choosing Column will highlight the entire column you have chosen. Row will highlight and entire row and Cell will highlight just one cell of the table. This comes in handy fro merging cells or columns or editing Table properties, etc.

Merge Cells is a wonderful tool if you have a table already created and you wish to change just a small portion or large portion of the table without having to rebuild a new table.

Split Cells if you wish to split one or many cells you highlight the cells and then click Split Cells and enter either rows or columns that you wish to split the cells up into.

Split Table if you are wanting to split your table into more than one, you would use this  command.

Table AutoFormat this option allows you to choose from many samples to let FrontPage automatically design your table.

Distribute Rows Evenly when designing your page quiet often the rows can become uneven, choosing this option will make all the rows evenly spaced.

Distribute Columns Evenly as with the option above, this command will make the columns become evenly spaced.

AutoFit to Contents this option allows FrontPage to decide how to fit the contents into the table

Convert with this option you have converting from Text to Table or Table to Text. It will either place your text within a table or it will remove the table from the text within it.

Fill depending on how you highlight your table, if you are highlighting by column then you click the Fill the Down and it will fill the entire column with the contents of the first cell. If you are highlighting a row it will fill the contents of the entire row with the content of the first cell.

Table Properties this submenu gives you three choices. Table will bring you a new window in which you can alter the layout, borders, background, etc to the table. By choosing Cell you can alter the same content, but for only that one cell instead of the entire table. Caption will only be highlighted if you have a caption in your page in which you can then alter it's properties.
