Lesson 11

Left and Right Bordered Background

To make a graphic transparent and mirrored follow the instructions in this lesson. Once this is finished follow the instructions below.

  1. Create a new blank page

  2. Right click on the page and choose Page Properties

  3. Click on the Background tab

  4. Under Colors click on the dropdown box beside background: (see graphic at right)

  5. Choose the color you wish your page to be and click OK

  6. Click on the Margins tab

  7. Check  Specify Top Margin and enter 0 then check.Specify Left Margin and enter 0 then click the OK button.

  8. Go to the File menu and click Table then Insert then table.

  9. You want three columns and one row, width 100%, 0 on the borders then click OK

  10. Right click inside the left column and choose cell properties.

  11. Under Background check Use Background Picture (see graphic on right)

  12. Click on the Browse button and find the graphic you want to use as the left border then click Open

  13. You now want to resize the column to fit the border of your graphic. To do this check off Specify Width and enter a number just slightly wider than your graphic.

  14. Click OK

  15. Right click inside the right column and choose cell properties.

  16. Repeat steps 11-13 using the graphic you created for the right border.

  17. Click OK

  18. This usually alters the rest of your information on width of your table so you then want to right click anywhere inside the table and choose Table Properties and check Specify Width and make it 100 then make sure you have in percent checked)

  19. Now right click in the middle column and choose cell properties and uncheck Specify Width and click OK.

  20. You are now ready to add your text and graphics to your page. You will enter all graphics and text into the middle column of your table. Remember for this page you made the top margin to be at 0 so before entering any graphics or text you will want to hit the enter key on your keyboard to leave a space between the top of the page and the beginning of your page content.

  21. Once you have saved your page and uploaded to the internet you should have both a left and right  border with all text and graphics to in the middle of the page.
